SPF ALL DAY EVERY DAY

 SPF ALL DAY EVERYDAY

I began adding SPF into my daily make up routine a few years back, when a friend of mine received some unwelcome news of Skin Cancer on her face. I had already been seeing my Dermatologist for my yearly skin checks ( A MUST), but decided after hearing my friend's story, I wanted to be a tad more vigilant in my fight against skin cancer. I went to see my Dermatologist that month and we began to talk about how best to protect my face and body, but what she had to say I wasn't expecting at all, and I am not sure a lot of us think about what she said. She had told me that the rise in Skin Cancer her practice was seeing, wasn't just from the usual culprits, while she is still seeing those cases from Tanning Beds, Excessive non-protected sun exposure from vacations, working outdoors, daily outdoor activities etc, but what they have been realizing is that it is also coming from day to day exposure from things like driving. Now let that settle in, how many times a day do we find ourselves driving to and from work, errands, kids practices, sunglasses on, with out even thinking about our harmful UVA/UVB rays are skin is being exposed to multiple times on the daily?? We all I'm sure lather up when we know we will be outside in the sun watching our kids in sports, pool/beach days, tennis, and outdoor outings, but how many times do we lather up just getting into our cars?? For me a few years back this answer was NEVER, that all changed that day!! I needed to change that, and add it into my daily routine. I began my search to find the best daily SPF to add into my make-up routine and to keep in my car to reapply throughout the day, a lot of what I found and tried were either way to oily for day to day use or had a ton of harmful toxins in their ingredients, until I found these gems!! Daily SPF is hitting all our favorite make up brands, so my list has grown a bit, but these are my most fave SPF's that also provide my skin with some added skincare benefits:

~Super Goop CC Screen SPF 50

~Super Goop Glow Screen SPF 40

~Super Goop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 (bonus my kids love this one too)

~Super Goop Glow Stick SPF 50 (easy on the go application)

~Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense SPF 30

~Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30

~Kosas Revealer Skin Improving Foundation SPF 25

All of these products host a variety of skin care benefits from minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, they also pack in moisturizing components using Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid, with out all of the harmful toxins some sunscreens use in their ingredients, which is a huge No for me. The most obvious benefit from adding SPF into your daily skin care routine is protecting your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays which helps reduce your risk of Skin Cancer, but they also have these benefits:

~Reduce premature aging

~Prevent uneven skin tones

~Avoid hyper pigmentation and redness

~Reduce the appearance of skin aging and sunspots

What's not to love about adding SPF into your daily routine?

Go grab yours and boost your SPF game to reduce your chances of Skin Cancer with me!!

Daily SPF is a huge WIN for me!!

Life Hacks For Universal Theme Parks

Booking a family trip to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure can be stressful no matter how big or small your family is. After a few trips with my family as a kid, and now as a Mom of two boys, with my Dad who we affectionately refer to as Disney/Universal Pop, I have a few tips to help you stress a little less, and enjoy the parks and your stay to the absolute fullest.  First things first where to stay?? Universal is unlike Disney in the fact that you can add Express Passes to your park tickets that you can use all day ANYTIME you want. Unfortunately, if you are staying off property these carry a hefty price tag on top of the already expensive park ticket price. Best ways to beat this: Staying at one of their top tier hotels of their Resorts. TRUST me its pays for itself. There are multiple levels of Hotels on property, but only the top tier Hotels offer Express Passes with your stay, as well as early park hours for resort guests...

Travel Skincare Routine Match Made In Heaven

I absolutely love traveling, and do so a lot for family vacations, but both of my boys are each on Travel Baseball Teams that travel pretty much from March until June, I also stress about packing way beforehand, especially about over packing with all of my makeup, SPF, and skincare. Well, if you are anything like me, worry no more because I have found the travel set for you!! I introduce you to Drunk Elephant's Littles 6.0 Set, each product is TSA approved sizes and comes with this adorably fun carryon bag. Welcome to 40ishandThriving

Welcome to 40ishandthriving!!   If you have found this blog you are most likely a 40ish Mom who is ready to begin her " Re-Claiming Me Era". Well, you have come to the right place! First, a little bit about me. I am a 42 year old wife and Mom of two boys, ages 12 and almost 10, living in the Northern Virginia area. I left my Dental Career before my first son was born in 2010 and continued to be a stay at home Mom ever since. I finally decided it was time to start focusing some of my time back onto myself a few years back, pre-covid. I started with a fitness goal to be the healthiest, fittest, strongest version of myself before I turned the dreaded big 40! Well, boom Covid hit, and not only flipped all of our lives upside down, it had plans to also de-rail my fitness journey. While quarantining in our family home in SC, I went for a run on the beach and injured my back pretty significantly, which ended up needed to be surgically fused in multiple places,...long story sho...
